Alternator off car

This blogs of the alternator done in practical.

With a multimeter in 2K a rotor winding to ground test was done. Test reading should be infinity. if there were a reading the rotor winding has shorted to ground and would need replacing. Then rotor winding resistance test was done. multimeter set to 200 ohms and remembering to minus the resistance of multimeter it would have to fall in between specs of 2-6 ohms.

Testing stator winding resistance each winding should have about the same resistance,  multimeter also set on 200 ohms if readings  are infinite or high the stator winding are open. Testing stator for ground either will be infinite or a very high resistance.

Testing rectifier positive diodes with multimeter set on diode, with common on B should give a low resistance and with positive on B the resistance should be high showing current flowing one way and not in the other.testing Now the negative diode testing, common on E should give infinite. negative test with positive on E should be a low resistance again showing that the diode are working properly which is one direction

Now test was to test regulator set point spec was 14.5v if reading is not obtained alternator would not be used because there is no output and that is what a regulator is for to regulate current output.

Last test was to measure brushes which had to be minimum of 4mm. if its under then there wouldn't be enough contact and causing sparks which would need replacing.
